It was great having the Safe Kids Coalition for Missoula in the studio talking about keeping children safe in the water. We were joined by swim instructor Kaci Briggeman who has lessons and information available here.

Give your child the ability to be able to handle situations in the water is key. ISR  ( Infant swimming resource) is the product over 45 years of ongoing development in the area of aquatic survival instruction for infants and children and is nationally recognized as the safest provider of survival swimming lessons for infants and young children.

This is so key because drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children under 5 in the U.S., and the second leading cause of death for children under 5 in Montana.

Kaci talks about tips for the parents out there. Not only is supervision key but life vests and proper equipment and fit for kids is so important. Also actually using life vests as well, so many people have them out but don't use them. Make sure all kids have life vests.
