20 year-old Gage Stroop was charged on Friday in Missoula Justice Court with beating and strangling his girlfriend so severely, she thought he was going to kill her.

According to court records, early on Friday morning, October 30, Stroop allegedly assaulted his girlfriend inside a residence in the 300 block of East Front Street. After her roommate left, Gage allegedly beat and strangled her so badly she couldn't breathe or talk. She told officers she thought Stroop was going to kill her. He pulled down her pants and grabbed her around the neck when they heard a knock at the door. Jane Doe 2 entered the residence saying she had heard screaming. Gage ran out and punched Jane Doe number two before leaving. He also allegedly broke the victim's iPhone.

He was charged with felony aggravated assault, assault with bodily injury and criminal mischief, both misdemeanors.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Selene Koepke asked substitute Justice of the Peace Suzanne Geer for bail of $50,000. Geer set Stroop's bail at $20,000, and ordered him to appear again for a preliminary hearing on November 12.
