It's Homecoming week at the University of Montana, and activities kick into high gear on Friday and Saturday.

On-Campus Events Coordinator for the University of Montana Alumni Association Angela Weisenburger said the activities began on Wednesday, with a decorating contest.

"All the campus departments have been decorating for Homecoming making everything festive and exciting for students to see," Weisenburger said. "Friday is community day. We have our distinguished alumni ceremony on Friday evening at 5:30 in the U.C. Ballroom, where we will be honoring four returning alumni with the university's highest honor."

The honorees are Darrell Choate, Timothy Conver, Arlynn Fishbaugh and Tom Seekins.

"Following the ceremony and reception, we go straight out to the UM Oval where we'll have the Yell-Night pep rally, singing on the steps with the UM Choir and the UM Men's Choir. The marching band, spirit squad, Monte and a big bonfire and the lighting on the 'M', and the big fireworks show" she said.

The UM Homecoming Parade gets underway at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday

"The parade starts at Higgins and Broadway, then travels down Higgins to University Avenue," she said. "We have 120 entries at last count not counting the marching bands, so that's about another 10 or 15 entries, and that makes it the largest in Montana. The theme this year is 'Under the Big Sky'. The football game starts a bit later this year at 2:30 p.m., All the events are free and open to the public."

Weisenburger reminds the public that parking is extremely limited on campus, so plan to carpool or use the Park and Ride buses off campus.
