Running season in Missoula is upon us, in order to get in top form for a 5K, marathon, or (in my case) the Peak Triathlon you NEED the proper fuel to keep you moving. Quite a few runners are unsure about how much fuel they need to prepare for a long run, either in training or racing. Many eat too much, others too little. There are potential problems either way. Getting the proper long-run nutrition plan can make the difference between finishing strong and not finishing at all.

"Hitting a wall" is, in essence, your brain and muscles being depleted of carbs. In other words, if you carb up, you'll avoid crashing and burning. Our friends at Max Muscle on Reserve introduced me to EnduroMax, a supplement designed to promote endurance during prolonged exercise and competition. What makes it so different is the amount of carbs in the drink. Just the right amount of caffeine and a good source of carbohydrates to keep you from burning out. It's a product that I've really noticed help my runs. One of my top choices.

Another factor in preparing for running season is what you ingest immediately following your training. Max Arm, another product from Max Muscle is perfect for just that. There seems to be a good ratio of carbs to proteins. So far, It has really helped to speed my recovery and helped me put on some mass, but not in a bloated way. The taste was good, I tried the intense strawberry. I would recommend this post workout to anyone that is looking for a serious recovery shake.

Finally...protein. Yup, more protein. You can never get enough when training for running season. The general rule of thumb is to consume 1 gram of protein for each pound that you weigh. Max Muscle's Gourmet Pro is the best tasting protein on the market, so it's easy to polish off the amount you need each day. My personal favorite is Vanilla Caramel Swirl. Highly recommended!

Long story short, your body needs fuel to cross the finish line. These three products, courtesy of Max Muscle on Reserve Street, are just what you need for running season in Missoula. Learn more by visiting their location at 3055 N Reserve St, Missoula, MT 59808
