Stuffing is one of the best dishes of Thanksgiving and making it from scratch can be a risk but if done right it can be amazing. Plus there is a way to make the official Montana stuffing.

First here is a quick recipe on how to make homemade stuffing then I will tell you the ingredient to add to make the ultimate Montana stuffing.

Regular Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sage seasoning mixture salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 6 stalks chopped celery
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 (1 pound) loaves day-old white bread, torn into small pieces

The extra special ingredient: Deer or Elk sausage!!

Preheat oven to 325 degrees, Place deer or elk sausage in a large, deep skillet and cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain and set aside. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Place the celery and onions in the saucepan, and slowly cook and stir until tender.Mix together the sausage, celery, onions, bread, sage, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Mix the eggs and chicken broth into the mixture. Use more broth if needed. Press the mixture into the baking dish ( 9x13). Bake 1 hour in the preheated oven, or until the top is brown and crisp.

The deer or elk or even wild-game in general can really make this a favorite around here.
