Our first look at one American Horror Story Season 7 monster was gruesome enough, so leave it to Ryan Murphy to double-down. The FX showrunner shares yet another cryptic clue, while rumors swirl that a certain Mother monster will put in an appearance as well.

We already knew Ryan Murphy was plotting a “secret” American Horror Story season, so we wouldn’t exactly call this a jump-scare. Three episodes into American Horror Story: Roanoke, FX has booked a return visit in 2017 with an official Season 7 renewal. Start your insufferable speculation!

FX bosses have made clear that American Crime Story would plumb a broader criminal focus than The People v. O.J. Simpson, noting early on that Hurricane Katrina would form Season 2's main story. Now, we know the as-yet-untitled follow-up will take advantage of additional episodes, casting some of the nation’s most notable figures.

Just when you thought your frustration with American Horror Story’s coy promotion of Season 6 might be coming to a middle, FX throws a curveball. Only one of the teasers you’ve seen has anything to do with the actual theme and setting, which Season 6 plans to keep under wraps until the September premiere.

The bigger mystery surrounding American Horror Story Season 6 seems to be mystery itself, as several cast members have joined the as-yet-untitled fall 2016 return. FX has yet to provide any real explanation for the delay (the series will skip Comic-Con as well), though we at least have a fresh Season 6 logo that knows we’re onto it.

American Horror Story has fallen into a pattern (among other things), alternating between period and contemporary settings, so leave it to Ryan Murphy to switch things up in Season 6.
