The ‘Suicide Squad’ Runtime Has Been Revealed
I saw the Suicide Squad trailer on the big screen for the first time last week. (It was one of the few highlights of my trip to the multiplex for Independence Day: Resurgence.) Sometimes trailers play very differently on the big screen than they do at home. But Suicide Squad worked even better big than it did on my laptop. It just looks like a hit, which is not something you can say about many 2016 summer movies (like, for example, Independence Day: Resurgence).
Per Collider, it also looks like the movie is going to be on the longish side. According to their sources, David Ayer’s DC antihero extravaganza starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto runs “130 minutes with credits.” That’s shorter than Batman v Superman’s 151 minutes and The Dark Knight’s 152 minutes, on par with V For Vendetta’s 131 minutes, and quite a bit longer than Jonah Hex’s disastrous 81 minutes.
Here’s the film’s official plot synopsis:
It feels good to be bad ... Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
Really, all that matters about the movie is not whether it’s long or shot but if it’s good. As Roger Ebert famously said “No good movie is too long and no bad movie is short enough.” Suicide Squad opens on August 5.
