We have every reason to be excited for Marvel and Sony’s new Spider-Man reboot, not the least of which is the cast, which somehow gets better with each passing week. The latest name in talks to join Spider-Man: Homecoming is Logan Marshall-Green, aka the actor often confused with Tom Hardy thanks to their ridiculously similar — and very handsome — features. But it looks like this is one role Tom Hardy won’t be taking from his less-appreciated doppelgänger.

Update: Deadline adds the casting of Silicon Valley’s Martin Starr, who will play an unspecified role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Original story below…

Per THR, Logan Marshall-Green is in talks for Spider-Man: Homecoming, in which he’d play a supporting antagonist opposite Michael Keaton, who plays the reboot’s primary villain — heavily rumored to be The Vulture. If another recent report is correct, then Marshall-Green may be playing a villain known as The Tinkerer, a mad scientist-type who helps The Vulture design his suit.

Marshall-Green is probably one of the last actors you’d think of for a superhero film, particularly after his insanely great performance in Karyn Kusama’s indie thriller The Invitation. If you haven’t seen that film yet (you really, really should), then you may know the actor best for his parts in Prometheus and The O.C., in which he gave us this instantly classic TV moment (which inspired a brilliant SNL Digital Short):

Now that our brief Logan Marshall-Green history lesson is complete…

Spider-Man: Homecoming also stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker (following his exciting debut in Captain America: Civil War), Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. The Grand Budapest Hotel’s Tony Revolori plays a high school rival, with The People v. O.J. Simpson’s Kenneth Choi as the principal. Zendaya is on board in a mysterious supporting role, said to be Peter’s love interest, with Donald Glover also joining the lineup this week.

Jon Watts is directing the reboot, which hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
