The Missoula County Elections Center will open a one-day satellite office on the University of Montana campus on Tuesday.

Elections Administrator Rebecca Connors said the satellite office is an experiment to see if on-campus voting will boost turnout.

"Currently, we have the election office at the courthouse and a remote location at the Missoula County Fairgrounds," Connors said. "The satellite office is actually going to be two different offices issuing ballots at the same time. This is a great logistical test to see if we can try it in other places in 2016."

Connors confirmed that certain UM students are eligible to vote on issues such as school levies that can add to property tax revenues.

"When they're registering to vote, they must sweat that they meet all the requirements to vote, meaning to be a resident of Montana for at least 30 days, be 18 years or older and be a U.S. citizen. Title 20, with is School District law allows anyone who is registered to vote in that school district is eligible to cast a vote on the mill levy election."

The satellite office will be open for one day only, Tuesday, October 27 from 9 a,m. to 4 p.m.
