Mark Ruffalo Teases Hulk’s ‘Collision Course’ With Bruce Banner in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’
Last year, Mark Ruffalo hinted that Thor: Ragnarok might finally let Bruce Banner and the Hulk interact with each other on the big screen. It’s something that’s occasionally happened in the Marvel comics, but we’ve yet to see the MCU take a crack at it — likely because it requires a bit of clever thinking: not only do they need to cook up a cool way to present it to audiences, but it needs to come from an organic place. That place may very well be Ragnarok.
Ruffalo spoke with Collider about the Thor sequel, in which we’ll see the two Civil War absentees team up for a “road movie” in space. Unlike his previous comments, Ruffalo was a bit more overt this time, indicating that we’ll see Bruce Banner and Hulk come face to face in Ragnarok:
I think the arc that he is ultimately making in his relationship with The Hulk and how that’s gonna resolve itself, that’s really where … nobody has gone to that place. He’s always been running from him or trying to deny it but they are coming for a collision course with each other and I think that could be pretty exciting if we can figure out a way, how to do it — multi-dimensionally. The only person in the world that The Hulk is scared of, or thing, is Banner.
That’s always been a fascinating concept. The Hulk is usually called upon in critical situations because he’s fearless and formidable, and you’d never guess that big green giant could be scared of anything. But even a Hulk knows that brains can be more powerful than brawn.
