The Ravalli County Sheriff's Office is investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide near Darby.

Sheriff Chris Hoffman said on Monday, January 6, that Ravalli County 9-1-1 received a report of a shooting early Monday afternoon.

"At about 12:45, Ravalli County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence northwest of Darby on the report of an individual that appeared to have been shot to death," Hoffman said. "When deputies arrived, they found two persons who appeared to be dead from gunshot wounds. At this point in time it appears to be a murder-suicide."

Hoffman said because of privacy issues, no other information would be released until next of kin could be notified.

"The incident is still under investigation," Hoffman said. "There are no more details I can give until identification and notification of next of kin."

Hoffman said he could not release any information such as the gender of the two victims, whether they were a married couple, or their ages. He said more information would be forthcoming after next of kin have been notified.
