Q-Tip Welcomes Lil Wayne To Universal Zulu Nation
Peace akhi. That's probably what Lil Wayne will be saying now, as it's the standard greeting for the Universal Zulu nation. The prestigious organization, founded by hip-hop icon Afrika Bambaataa, has ushered in the Young Money leader into their ranks.
In a tweet, A Tribe Called Quest rapper Q-Tip asked people to welcome Weezy into the global organization.
"Help me in welcoming @LilTunechi to fold of the Zulus," he tweeted to his followers.
If you've copped and studied any of the Tribe albums, especially the first three, then you've heard multiple Zulu nation shout-outs by Tip. The organization teaches, honors and celebrates all facets of hip-hop culture.
Fellow ACTQ rhymer Phife Dawg is also a member, but acknowledged it less. However, he did give a bold mention on the classic track 'Electric Relaxation.' "I like 'em brown, yellow, Puerto Rican or Haitian / My name is Phife Dawg from the Zulu nation," he rapped.
As far as Wayne, he's never publicly expressed interest in joining the worldwide hip-hop collective, and as a matter of fact the newer rappers -- post A Tribe Called Quest -- seemed far remove from the Nation or any of its teachings.
Yet and still, Bambaataa has a new member now, and it'll be interesting to see if the New Orleans rapper starts acknowledging Zulu in his rhymes. We'll also see if Wayne's popularity will bring younger hip-hoppers to the organization, because there's a good chance that it will.
