Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh says there are currently two sexual assault investigations going on at the University of Montana, but that only one is being handled by city police at this point. Although many are aware of the assault that was reported this week, after campus police sent out an email, a second and less well known investigation started last week.

"Last Friday, October the 14th, an adult female came to the police department and met with a detective and she reported an incident that occurred to her back on October the 7th, involving a male acquaintance," Welsh said. "In fact, what she reported is that they had non-consensual sex. We have assigned that detective to the case and he is involved in an ongoing investigation."

So far, the suspect’s name has not been released because the investigation is still ongoing. Welsh says the sexual assault appears to have occurred between two students on campus.
