Oregon Wolf Poached Near Stevensville, FWP Seeking Information

Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks is seeking information about a wolf that poached last Saturday in the Bitterroot Valley.

"It's kind of unique, we were able to actually nail-down the time of death pretty closely, between 6 and 9 P.M. that evening on Saturday May 31," said FWP Spokeswoman Vivica Crowser. "The wolf was wearing a GPS collar which tracks its movements and also alerts us when it doesn't move for a while. It sent out a mortality signal, which is how we knew this one was dead."

The wolf was found in the Hacky Creek area near Ambrose Saddle.

"It's In the Burnt Fork of the Bitterroot, kind of that area east of Stevensville, in the Sapphires," Crowser said. "We are asking people to call 1800 TIP-MONT. Anyone with information that leads to a conviction, those folks will be eligible for a reward up to $1,000."

This wolf is actually from Oregon and was being tracked by Oregon FWP, The collar data shows that it migrated into the Bitterroot through the Big Hole Valley.
