Perfect: A word Niall Horan would certainly not use to describe his very first performance as part of One Direction in 2011.

In a new interview with The BBCthe singer said a show at Watford Colosseum in London on December 18, 2011 was an unmitigated disaster, and that he and his bandmates were completely unprepared to tackle a live set off of The X Factor.

“I never want to talk about that gig again. Worst night of my life," he said. "The worst One Direction show ever. We’ve refused to talk about it ever since… It was a disaster. We were just a joke."

“Anything we rehearsed just went out the window,” he added. “It was our first ever gig and we just didn’t know what the f--- was going on.”

Still, he's come a long way in the nearly six years since, and today (September 15), released new track "Too Much to Ask" which offers additional insight into his forthcoming solo album.

"my new single & one of my favourites on the album 'Too Much to Ask' is out," he tweeted with the song's release. "It's a very special song to me and I hope you like it."
