New ‘Wonder Woman’ Photo Sends Diana to the Trenches
There were several great new trailers at Comic-Con last weekend, and while it’s hard to choose a clear winner, Wonder Woman comes pretty close. The first full trailer for the iconic hero’s solo film was packed with action and awesome imagery (like watching Gal Gadot pull a sword from the back of her fancy party dress), and gave us a real good look at the movie’s World War I setting. We still have a bit of a wait before Wonder Woman hits theaters, but if that trailer left you wanting more, we do have a new image from the film.
Empire debuted a new official still from Wonder Woman, the upcoming solo film from director Patty Jenkins (Monster), which offers a bit of a prequel story for Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince. As shown in the full trailer, fierce Amazonian warrior Diana arrives during World War I, where she finds herself caught up in man’s battle:
This happens not long after Diana has her very first encounter with a man, which — as some clever people were quick to point out — gives off some serious Little Mermaid vibes:
I mean, they’re not wrong – not that it’s a bad thing.
The trailer was primarily focused on showing Diana in our world, but we did get a few awesome glimpses of her life in Themyscira with the other Amazonian warriors, which honestly looked like it might be the coolest stuff in the film. Here’s the official synopsis:
Wonder Woman hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
