The new principal for Hellgate High School was named on Wednesday as Judson Miller, presently the principal at North Kitsap High School in Kitsap, Washington, and...he's a Bobcat.

MCPS Superintendent Mark Thane announced Miller's hiring at a staff meeting on Wednesday morning. Spokesperson Hatton Littman outlined the strengths that Miller will bring to the position.

"Mr. Miller served as an English teacher, but in an administrative capacity, was the Dean of Students and since 2011 has been the principal of North Kitsap High School in Washington State," Littman said. "Five different candidates were interviewed for the position with parents, teachers and district administrators. Mr. Miller rose to the top, and was highly regarded by all of those groups."

Littman described the duties of a principal at a major high school in Montana.

"It's like running a small city inside your school building," Littman said. "You are responsible for the academic outcomes of all the students in your building. For managing the team of administrators in your building, including two assistant principals and an athletic director, along with a myriad of other responsibilities."

Miller will begin his duties as the new Hellgate principal on July 1.

Oh, the Bobcat reference. Miller got his B.A.in English at Montana State University in Bozeman.
