While you were checking out at the grocery store, you probably read the magazine covers….maybe roll your eyes and mutter something like, ‘REALLY? I bet… not in real life!’

When I saw the latest issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine, I was disgusted. I am so frustrated about the air brushing that takes place on nearly EVERY photo that graces the tabloid pages. I’m also annoyed with this ‘ideal’ of what beauty is… SKINNY. And the thought that if you’re not skinny, you must want to be. The magazine covers sell us this ideal that when you are skinny, life is perfect!

September’s Cosmopolitan cover girl Nina Dobrev is beautiful. I’m sure she was beautiful before the editors of the high selling mag decided to airbrush every tiny imperfection off her body, along with air brushing her arms to be itsy bitsy.

They point to her arms, “The Quickie Awesome Arm Workout!” They airbrushed every detail out of her arm. There aren’t any striations… no muscles… it’s just a super tiny arm. It doesn't look like she does an arm workout.

I guess we all have our own idea of what beauty looks like. I believe beautiful is strong. I’m not a size 2, nor do I want to be. I work out and strive to feel healthy… being the best version of me I can be.

So what do we do to change the way Hollywood, the tabloids, clothing stores and many other major campaigns market to us and in turn tell us what beauty is and how we should be?
