While I think a lot of this year's success is going to depend on the health of Mighty #5, it's nice to be considered the team to beat. Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Year Will Cherry and his fellow Montana Grizzlies have been selected first in the preseason men's basketball polls, announced today by the conference. Here's wishing Will a speedy recovery from a serious foot injury. The Griz received 8 of the 11 first place votes and 98 points in the coaches' poll and 24 of 32 first place votes and 344 points in the media poll. After Montana, the coaches went with: 2: Weber State, 3: Northen Colorado, 4: North Dakota, 5: Portland State, 6: Eastern Washington, 7: Sacramento State, 8: Montana State, 9: Idaho State, 10: Southern Utah, 11: Northern Arizona. The media poll had some minor differences, voting Eastern Washington third, dropping Northern Colorado, North Dakota and Portland State down one more notch, and flipping Montana State and Sacramento State in the #7/8 positions. So for what they're worth, there they are! Remember UM Maroon and Silver scrimmages (men's and women's) next Thursday night October 25th starting at 5:30 in the Adams Center. And Gooooooo Grrrrrrizzzz! DB
