Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks is confirming that a Montana hunter was attacked by a bear while hunting over the weekend. FWP Region One spokesman Dillon Tabish explains.

"This occurred at approximately 9:20 on Sunday. The individual was hunting with a partner on private timberland, northwest of Columbia Falls. He was walking off-trail in forested timber, when he reported turning around as the bear attacked him. The bear did bite both of his arms and then pulled the individual by his leg for approximately seven to eight feet before letting go and fleeing the scene, the victim's hunting partner contacted authorities."

Tabish says an investigative team was sent out to inspect the attack and were able to determine the species of bear responsible for the attack.

“Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks’ Wildlife Human Attack Response Team responded to this incident after it occurred on November 11 and the investigators did confirm that an adult grizzly bear was involved in the encounter,” Tabish said.

The victim was flown out of the woods by Two Bear Air and taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center. According to the Montana Standard, the victim was a 35-year-old Whitefish man who is recovering, but whose arm was broken by the attack.
