Missoula Police are searching for suspects in a series of parking meter break-ins that occurred early Monday morning, June 13.

“About 10:50 a.m. we received a walk-up complaint from a citizen who indicated that they were having trouble with the parking meters near city hall and thought that maybe they had been tampered with," said Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh. "An officer went and examined a few of the meters and found that they had been broken into, and that the money inside was missing.”

More than a dozen parking meters were busted into between woody and pine, and then another report came in.

“We contacted the parking commission who came over and secured the meters, and then later advised us that they had also discovered that one of their parking kiosks in the 100 block of W. Alder had been damaged, that came in about 11:30 a.m.” Welsh said.

Police have a good estimate of the amount of money stolen, and are currently searching for any surveillance video that may feature the thief. Anyone with information about this crime can provide that information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers at 721-4444.
