21 year-old Emilio Culp appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Thursday charged with two felony counts of assault with a weapon and misdemeanor partner or family member assault after allegedly punching a woman and then pulling a gun on her and another friend.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Mark Handelman asked Justice of the Peace Alex Beal for bail to be set at $25,000.

“These charges stem from the defendant and the female victim getting into an argument and the defendant started hitting her in the face and then trapped her up against a wall,” said Handelman. “The victim’s friend who was at the residence came to her aid, at which point the defendant brandished a gun at that friend and then at the victim. The defendant eventually left, but then after that incident the defendant incessantly tried to contact the victim through phone calls and text messages. He was using several different numbers to contact her so that once she blocked one number he had access to another. The victim is very afraid at this point and is obtaining an order of protection against him. He has a level three active score on the PSA scale, so we are asking for bail of $25,000.”

After an appeal by the public defender at the jail, Judge Beal set bail at $10,000 and ordered Culp to appear again later in January.
