34 year-old Ryan Baylor is yet another Missoula man charged with assault after allegedly strangling his ex-girlfriend.

According to court documents, Baylor forced his way into his ex-girlfriend's apartment early Friday morning. When she attempted to call 9-1-1, Baylor knocked the phone out of her hand, then allegedly beat her and put her in a choke hold. The victim told authorities that she was afraid that Baylor would kill or seriously injure her.

He was charged with his third partner or family member assault, resulting in a felony, in addition to felony aggravated assault.

During his appearance in Missoula Justice Court, Deputy Missoula County Attorney Selene Koepke asked Judge Karen Orzech to set Baylor's bail at $75,000.

"The defendant has a violent history, and was convicted in 2013 for felony partner or family member assault with the same victim as in this case," she said. "His history shows a failure to appear in court. and based on the serious nature of this offense, the defendant's violent history, and the fact that he has been convicted of assaulting this victim before, all suggest that he poses a danger to the community and this victim in particular."

Judge Orzech agreed, and set bail at $75,000. Baylor's next appearance will be September 14. He was remanded back to the jail.

There have been at least two other cases in justice court this summer in which the defendant allegedly strangled his partner.
