The Missoula City County Health Department's website says when visibility gets down to 1.3 miles because of wildfire smoke, the air quality rating moves to 'hazardous'. At 5 a.m., The National Weather Service rated visibility at 3 miles.

Forecaster Jen Pallister says at its worst, visibility was down to one and a half miles on Friday afternoon, prompting school officials to move Friday night's Missoula Hellgate-Kalispell Glacier homecoming football game to Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Ronan High School.

When air quality reaches the hazardous level, the health department advises that outdoor athletic events be cancelled and practices moved indoors, however at 'unhealthy' levels, it is up to each individual as to how long to expose themselves to the smoke.

The University of Montana-Liberty football game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff inside Washington-Grizzly stadium.
