Grizzly football signing day took place on Wednesday in the Sheehan-Majestic Center at Washington Grizzly Stadium, where third year head coach Bob Stitt welcomed his second full recruiting class.

The 2017 signing class consists of 18 freshmen, ten of whom are from Montana, and four transfers. Stitt said signing day is exciting, but also a relief for both the players and the coaching staff.

"Now that signing day is here, the players can return to somewhat a normal life, and our coaches and their families can, as well,” Stitt said. “We’ve got 18 high school kids and we brought in four transfers because we needed to have some help immediately on the defensive line, so we brought three defensive linemen in. We had a gap at the quarterback position, we’ve got a senior and a freshman and we needed something in between, so we brought in a junior college quarterback with two years left to generate a little competition, along with some depth.”

Stitt emphasized the importance of recruiting Montana players.

“The biggest thing about this class is 10 Montana kids, and we did a very good job of identifying kids with FCS ability, and our whole recruiting philosophy revolves around recruiting kids from Montana,” he said.

The Grizzlies are coming off a disappointing season, finishing at 6-5 overall and 3-5 in Big Sky Conference play, including a humbling 24-17 loss to the cross-state rival Montana State Bobcats under a first year head coach in Washington Grizzly Stadium
