Kids are Hilariously Wise

Having four kids of my own I get some pretty interesting answers for the questions I ask. Some of my favorite answers come from asking my kids the question they just asked me. I’ll give you an example.

So my one son asked me, “Where do babies come from?” Of course I was immediately terrified to answer this question. I cringed at how I was going to explain the birds and the bees to my eight-year old, but then I had an “aha” moment. I decided that I would just ask him where he thought babies came from. His answer was simple, “Your belly.” That was the day I learned to never over explain things.

If I ever have any sticky kids’ questions, I always ask my child the question first, and then if I choose to elaborate on his or her answer, I do. If not, they are usually satisfied with their own answer. They just seem to want to know if they are right.

Kids see the world in a totally different light then we adults do. So much for them is black and white and right or wrong. Things just are the way they are. They are great at repeating things they’ve heard from adults too, or at least what they think they’ve heard adults say.
