Justin Timberlake Gets ‘Happy’ in the ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ Video
Update, 5/17: The official "Can't Stop the Feeling" video is here, and it's as sunshine-y as the track itself. Like the "Happy" video from Justin's longtime friend and collaborator Pharrell, the visual finds the track's singer intercut with footage of other people joyfully dancing — though while "Happy" featured celebrities like Kelly Osbourne and Tyler, the Creator, this clip stars normal people named "Cristy" and "Galen," and instead of Despicable Me 2's Minions, we're celebrating Trolls. Watch the video above.
It's been three years since the release of The 20/20 Experience, Justin Timberlake's last album and his follow up to 2006's pop juggernaut, FutureSex/LoveSounds. But forget sexy — on "Can't Stop the Feeling," JT is bringing funky back.
The Max Martin-produced track — off the soundtrack of the forthcoming Trolls movie based on the iconic, colorfully-haired toys of the same name — is a sunny, groovy bop. Upbeat and light enough for kids to sing along to (Radio Disney will be all over this one) yet infectious and nostalgic enough for the adult crowd, the funk-tinged dance anthem has the potential to rule the radio as a feel-good summer anthem a la "Blurred Lines" — without the, you know, problematic and creepy undertones.
"I got that sunshine in my pocket / Got that good soul in my feet," Timberlake, who voices a character named Branch in the film, croons. "I feel that hot blood in my body / When it drops, ooh! / I can't take my eyes up off it."
The song was initially released alongside a music video of sorts, which finds the artist dancing and singing to the joyously contagious track in a studio with his fellow Trolls cast and crew. Additional cast members from the film who aren't in the studio scene make various cameos throughout the clip, including Gwen Stefani, James Corden, and Anna Kendrick.
The best cameo of all? Swedish electro-pop duo Icona Pop, who literally get to play with tiny, fluffy puppies during their scene. TINY. FLUFFY. PUPPIES!
What could be more feel-good than that?
Trolls hits theaters November 4.
