James Rebhorn, who played the father of Claire Danes' character on 'Homeland' and who had appeared in several TV shows and films throughout his long career, has died.

Rebhorn had been engaged in an extremely long battle with melanoma. He was 65. His agent confirmed his death and that he died at home on Friday, March 21.

"He died from melanoma, which had been diagnosed in 1992," agent Dianne Busch stated. "He fought it all this time. He died Friday afternoon at his home in New Jersey, where he had been receiving hospice care for a week-and-a-half."

Reborn, a Philadelphia native, was a much loved character actor. He recently appeared in recurring capacity on 'White Collar' on the USA Network. He also portrayed the district attorney who put Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer in jail during the 'Seinfeld' finale in 1998, which is a pivotal part of TV history.

Other shows littering his resume include 'The Practice,' 'Boston Legal,' 'Law & Order' and more.

Rebhorn also had roles in films like 'Meet the Parents, 'Independence Day' and 'Cold Mountain.'

The actor is survived by his wife Rebecca and daughters Hanna and Emma.
