University of Montana officials are expecting a sold-out record crowd at the Saturday night August 31 opening game, as the Montana Grizzlies host the Appalachian State Mountaineers at 7 p.m.

“I think the sell out is great news because it means that Griz Nation is alive and well, and like all of us, anticipating a great match-up against Appalachian State,” Associate Athletic Director Greg Sundberg said. “Our all-time attendance record was set last season against Montana State, which was 26,210. But for this game, we’ve sold some restricted view seats just to get folks in the door. We should definitely set the attendance record, as well as having an awesome atmosphere for college football.”

The 2012 season was a disappointment for the team, coaches and fans, as the Grizzlies went 5-6. It was the team’s first losing season in nearly 30 years. In addition, there was trouble off the field, with a high-profile court case, as well as investigations by the Department of Justice and the NCAA that put a damper on the season.

All that is forgotten now, as starting quarterback Jordan Johnson will be under center, with a quick, powerful running game, and an experienced defense with several preseason All-Americans on the roster. The theme for this season for all of Grizzly athletics is ‘United.’

For those who weren’t fortunate enough to get tickets to Saturday night’s game, KGVO 1290 AM and 101.5 FM, the flagship stations for the Grizzly Sports Network, will be carrying the game. It will be televised by Max Media on KTMF FOX-23 and 42 in Missoula and Kalispell. The game will also be streamed live on gogriz.com.
