The lowland flooding continues to increase as the Bitterroot River levels rise. The National Weather Service has extended its Flood Warning to the northern Ravalli County area. The US Geological Survey river gauge at Bell Crossing northeast of Victor was at 10.06 feet at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 23. Flood stage is 11 feet and the river should reach and surpass that level sometime Saturday, the experts predict.

Farther up the river, the USGS gauge south of Darby near Conner was at 6.64 feet at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 23. Flood stage is 7.5 feet and the Bitterroot River is expect to surge past that Saturday. Both gauges are expected to continue registering above flood stage for a few days.

The Ravalli County Office of Emergency Management again reminds residents about sand and sandbags available at the northeast corner of the Ravalli County Fairgrounds in Hamilton, at the Victor Fire Hall, at the Corvallis Fire Station #2 on the East Side Highway north of Corvallis, at Stevensville's West Side Fire Station by US 93 behind Subway at the Wye, and the Florence Fire Station off Holloway Lane. If you come upon water over the road, Turn Around, Don't Drown. And report the flooded roadway to the Ravalli County Road Department at 363-2733 or the Ravalli County Sheriff's Office at 363-3033.
