Missoula Rural Firefighters responded to a house fire at about 7:30 Tuesday night across from Community Medical Center, just blocks from the main fire station on South Avenue.

Assistant Chief Brent Christofferson said when firefighters arrived they found flames and smoke visible. The crews entered the home and found no one inside. NBC Montana’s Andrea Olson was on the scene and spoke with Battalion Chief Blaine Cowan..

"Right now, the fire's knocked down on the inside of the building," Cowan said. "Some of it had extended into the attic, so my crews right now are making sure that everything's completely out before we start releasing crews."

Missoula Rural Fire’s news release stated that no people were injured, however the family dog did not survive, and the family cat was still missing as of about 10 last night. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and it is not known if the home was insured.
