A local environmental group is asking Montanans to contact their congressional delegation to ask them to exclude drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge from the $1.1 trillion tax cut bill.

Sky Borden with Environment Montana said her main concerns with the tax cut bill is opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling.

“It has no place in the tax bill,” Borden said. “It’s just going to have calamitous consequences. The refuge is one of the last truly wild places on earth, and opening it up to oil and gas drilling will do irreversible damage for the natural landscape. The refuge has caribou, polar bears, grizzly bears, arctic foxes and there are 200 difference species of migratory birds that depend on that landscape being kept intact.”

Borden also decried the benefits the tax bill will have for multinational energy companies.

She is asking Montanans to contact Representative Greg Gianforte and Senators Jon Tester and Steve Daines and ask that the refuge drilling be removed from the bill.
