Dave Dickenson, that’s ‘Super Dave’ to Griz fans all over the world, will be returning to Washington Grizzly Stadium for the first time in a decade to be recognized for being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

The September 22 game against Sacramento State will be the backdrop as Dickenson is honored on the field.

UM Sports Information Director for football Eric Taber said induction into the College Football Hall of Fame is a rare occasion.

“It’s just massive,” said Taber. “If you think about it there’s tens of thousands of football players who have played the game, and point 2 percent of them get into the College Football Hall of Fame. He is in some very, very elite company.”

In honor of the very special occasion, Taber said new Dickenson-themed sports apparel is already on sale at various outlets.

“It’s just a limited edition of a bunch of Nike apparel,” he said. “It’s the throwback copper and gold colors that are so popular, and it’s got Dave Dickenson’s number 15 on the front (one of the few numbers to have been permanently retired in Dickinson’s honor) with ‘Dickenson’ across the back shoulder, so it looks just like a football jersey, so really, this is your chance to get another lifetime piece of gear, because we’re not going to see these around ever again.”

The Dickenson product line will be available for purchase through the fall of 2018 only.

In 2002, Dickinson was inducted into the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame and in 2015, he entered the CFL Hall of Fame. Most recently he was named CFL Coach of the Year in his first season as head coach of the Calgary Stampeders.

Dickenson will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame along with nine other legendary players and three coaches at the NFF's black-tie banquet in December at the Hilton Midtown in New York.

Their accomplishments will also be housed permanently in Atlanta at the Chick-Fil-A College Football Hall of Fame.
