Copper King Fire Grows Slightly Over Weekend to 1,445 Acres, Only Five Percent Contained

Firefighters on the Copper King Fire burning near Thompson Falls had some relief this weekend with cooler temperatures.

"The cooler temperatures were a good thing, we had just some interior burning, but it allowed for crews to do some burnout operations along the ACM road to create some indirect line and some black space between the road and the fire itself," said Fire Information Officer Sara Rouse.

Despite beginning on the same day as the Roaring Lion Fire, which is now at 30 percent containment. Containment levels are comparatively low on Copper King.

"Copper King Fire is currently at 1,445 acres and five percent containment, Rouse said. "We only talk about the fire being contained if it is direct fire line, so that means if the fire line is directly along the edge of the fire. They are working on line, but it is not on the fire's edge, it's a little bit away from the fire, so that line doesn't count as containment."

There are now 412 personnel tasked to the Copper King Fire. Rouse says extremely difficult terrain has made containment difficult.
