The Copper King fire expanded even more Sunday night causing people to be evacuated from their homes. Public Information Officer Glenda Scott has the details.

“The fire doubled in size and is now at 3,908 acres,” said Scott. “That was mapped at midnight and it grew through the evening. That active movement is toward the Little Thompson River and that is where the evacuations occurred.”

Scott says the exact number of homes that have been evacuated is yet to be determined, but many homes are in pre evacuation status.

“There are eight crews, 14 engines, and seven helicopters currently assigned to the fire,” Scott said. “Those are going to be changing rapidly right now because they are transferring to a Type 1 incident command team. We do have seven helicopters and they are focusing their attention on the ACM road and along highway 200 where we have been able to keep it in check so far protecting homes and infrastructure.”

As of now, no major injuries have been caused by the fire. There will be a Copper King Community Meeting held tonight at 7pm at the Thompson Falls Community Center.
