The Bitterroot Valley man killed by a falling tree during a windstorm Sunday was Michael Kenneth Bell, age 62.

Ravalli County Sheriff/Coroner Chris Hoffman released the name after notification of family members.

Hoffman said the Conner area man had been fishing in the East Fork of the Bitterroot River when a strong wind at mid-day blew a tree on top of him. Bell was killed instantly, Hoffman said in a news release.

The wind event also knocked down trees that blocked US 93 and took down power lines. While Sula Volunteer firemen were working on that incident, they heard dogs barking and running along the river and, upon investigation, found the body.

The incident occurred about four miles south of Conner, near mile marker 19.
