Cause of Hamilton Man’s ‘Suspicious Death’ Revealed as Blunt Force [DOCUMENT]

Hamilton police were called to a residence on January 28 for what came to be described as a 'suspicious death'. Richard Thaut, 25, of Hamilton was found dead inside the home.

In a statement released on Friday, February 7, Hamilton Police Chief Ryan Oster revealed that the "State Medical Examiner has determined that Mr. Thaut died as a result of blunt force injuries," the statement read.

The statement continued, "The Hamilton Police Department is continuing to work with the Montana State Crime lab to evaluate and process evidence gathered in this case. We anticipate that criminal charges will be filed in this case in the near future, however, due to the fact that this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot release any further details regarding possible criminal charges. Candace and Richard Sullivan remain in the Ravalli County Detention Center on previous charges that are unrelated to this investigation. They have not been charged with anything regarding this incident."

Hamilton police were called to the rental home on January 28 to investigate a disturbance, and found Thuat dead on the floor. At that time, Cadace and Richard Sullivan were detained and questioned. They were placed back in custody because they were out on bond on prior drug charges, and had violated conditions of their bond release. They were seen by a judge, where a higher bond was set, and, according to the statement released Friday, they remain in the Ravalli County Detention Center.
