A controlled burn quickly went out of control near Corvallis Hills Estate late Wednesday afternoon, leading to the evacuations of several homes in the area, and three different fire departments called in to battle the blaze, which was reported at about 4:30 p.m.

"There are a good number of homes up in that area," said Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman. "By the time Corvallis Fire got up there and realized what they had, they called for mutual aid from Hamilton Fire and Victor Fire," Hoffman said, adding, "they requested the sheriff's office personnel to come up and quickly evacuate homes in the area."

Hoffman said 10 homes were evacuated because of the fire, however residents were being allowed back into their homes by about 7 p.m.

Hoffman said, "some vehicles and a couple of outbuildings were burned, but no one was injured". Hoffman praised all three fire departments for keeping the blaze from damaging any homes in the area. "The burn is very obvious from north of Corvallis along the Eastside Highway, you can see the black," Hoffman said.
