47 year-old Brett Humphrey is in the Missoula County Jail on $75,000 after allegedly pointing a gun in his victim’s face, as well as beating and strangling his victim with a dog’s choke chain at the Lolo Creek Campground on Sunday.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Caitlin Williams explained why she asked substitute Justice of the Peace Matt Erickson for $75,000 bond.

“This defendant is charged with partner or family member assault, strangulation and assault with a weapon after he pointed a loaded Glock (pistol) in the victim’s face,” Williams began. “He beat her repeatedly with his fists and strangled her multiple times with a dog’s choke chain. The victim reported that she believed she was going to die either by him shooting her or by strangulation.”

Williams described what Missoula County Sheriff’s deputies found when they arrived at the campground.

“They found blood all over the victim’s face, clothing and the camper,” she said. “They located the dog’s silver choke chain in the camper, as well. The victim was taken to the emergency room for evaluation and had red marks on the neck and scratches. The victim indicated that there had been increasing instances of domestic violence, and reported that the defendant had strangled the victim last week as well.”

Judge Erickson set bail at $75,000 and ordered Humphrey to appear in court again on September 24.
